What is this qualification?

The qualification contains selections of units from the following qualifications at SCQF level 5

 

Fabrication welding

Engineering Maintenance

Performing Engineering Operations

Performing Manufacturing Operations.

This level 2 qualification is a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) based on national occupational standards for engineering, which are statements of performance that describe what competent people in a particular occupation or task are expected to be able to do. It involves the skills and knowledge needed for occupations in Industrial applications including the ability to organise work and identify and prevent problems.

 

You must complete all 3 mandatory units, plus three optional units from the wide selection of units offering an extensive choice and flexibility for candidates to demonstrate competence in one or more of a wide variety of Industrial activities:

 

General Fabrication and welding applications

Business Improvement Activities

General Machining, Fitting and Assembly Applications

General Maintenance Engineering Applications

General Electrical and Electronic Engineering Applications

Assisting in the Installation of Mechanical/Electrical equipment

Carrying out scheduled servicing activities

Use of CAD

Producing engineering project plans

Using milling, turning and grinding machines

Operating CNC milling, turning and grinding machines

 

What are the prerequisites?

·         There are no prerequisites, this qualification does not have a separate learning content and does not require attendance at college or training centre.

 

 

Who is this qualification for?

Individuals who need recognition of their competence in one or more of a wide variety of engineering activities and also need a nationally recognised qualification at Level 2.

 

Where does it lead?

 

EAL Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in Business Improvement Techniques.

 

Although there is not a direct progression route from the PIA to the EAL Level 3 qualifications, evidence from this qualification can be used as part of the portfolio for a level 3 in Fabrication and Welding, Engineering Maintenance, Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering qualifications.
